how to adult: Truths of Adulting: 5 Things College Graduates Need to Know

Share:
So. You're done with college and ready to enter the brave, new world of adulting.

Congratulations! It's a big deal.

You've worked hard, and you should celebrate! As a graduation gift, here are five fantastic truths about adulthood that will save you time and frustration.

(No need to send a thank-you note.)

1. You can now go wherever you want!

The world is your oyster. You can hop on a plane or take a train (quite literally) to anywhere in the world.

And you should!

But beware: You may find that the place you most want to be is home.

The mere thought of changing into yoga pants and watching TV under your favorite Snuggie will rival the joy you felt at seeing the Northern Lights for the first time. (And it's cheaper!)

2. You have the knowledge!

That was the point of going to college—to learn stuff. Right? And your degree proves you achieved what you set out to learn.

And quite possibly the most useful skill you learned? How to Google.

This search engine—and it’s magic results—comes in handy in almost every situation. Recipes, check. Rashes, Google’s got cha. Relationship advice? Yup!

Really, how DID our grandparents live without the Internet?

3. You should now (likely) make more money!

Gone are the days of making minimum wage.

Which is great.

Except now, in addition to double the pay, you will likely receive double the bills. Remember that allowance you got as a kid? You'll be left with a similar spending account—which isn't half bad.

Keep things simple and you’ll do grand!

4. You’re free to plan your own meals.

News flash: No longer are "beer and ramen" considered a well-balanced diet.

If you want to live, you can—and should—pick meals that’ll give you the energy you need when stepping into the workplace to put your hard-earned degree to use.

Hint: Step away from the instant burritos.

5. Your health matters more now than ever.

Eat healthy. Get the appropriate amount of exercise. Manage stress. Get enough sleep.

All easier said than done.

You’re working super hard to impress your boss. While juggling your new-found freedom and responsibilities. And sometimes…just sometimes…time management outside of the office will be a challenge.

There will be days when you cook healthy dinners that could be featured on the Food Network, are in bed by 10 p.m., and feel on top of the word. And, there’ll be days when you roll through the drive through after staying out just a little too late.

When it comes to weight management (PST—your metabolism is soon going to be very different) or supporting your healthy immune system and maintaining a healthy microbiome, supplements are going to be your new best friends.*

Despite the reality of additional bills and the occasional growing pains, the good news is this: You are now free to pursue your dreams.

And you know what?

We're behind you all the way. We happen to believe true health isn’t measured by your size, scale, or mirror. It’s how your life and dreams fit—not just your jeans. So, go...embrace life!
