International Women’s Day: Celebrating International Women’s Day

Share:
When we hear the term “power-house women,” many of us think of those who are famous or wealthy. Perhaps fictional characters from books or television cross your mind. While we can’t all be Oprah or Wonder Woman or run in the same social circles as Beyoncé or Kate Middleton, today is a day to celebrate all women for everything they do.

This one is dedicated to all of the ladies out there. To the moms juggling work, play dates, helping with homework, and cleaning up the tornado of toys; to the career women who put in those extra hours at the office every day; to the retired gals who never stop discovering new ways to learn and grow; to the college ladies putting in those late-night study sessions, each and every one of you is beautiful, inspiring, and has so much to offer the world.
And for all the guys out there, we haven’t forgotten about you. You are amazing too, but this one’s for the ladies. Take a moment to give the gals in your life some well-deserved praise. After all, they’ve earned it.

Let’s Hear it for the Ladies

Women’s history month may be the whole month of March, but fortunately, there is an extra special day to celebrate all of the women. Today, March 8, we’re celebrating International Women’s Day!

We hope women everywhere feel the love, especially all of our Plexus® gals! Being a businesswoman isn’t easy, especially when you top it off with everything else women do on the daily—working long hours, raising kids, keeping the house together, staying involved in the community, and of course, encouraging other women along the way.

No matter her job, each woman deserves a shout-out today. From corporate professionals and nurses to teachers and stay-at-home moms—and everything in between—every woman’s efforts should be celebrated. So, all the ladies out there, put your hands up!

2020 International Women’s Day

International Women's Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women from all corners of the globe. International Women’s Day is a day dedicated to supporting and furthering gender equality.

The first International Women's Day occurred in 1911 and was supported by over one million people. Today, International Women’s Day is celebrated by millions of men, women, children, businesses, charities, etc. worldwide.

The theme of 2020 International Women’s Day is ‘each for equal’. Each for equal stems from ‘Collective Individualism’ - meaning every individual is a part of a whole. Individual behaviors, mindsets, actions, and interactions impact society on a much larger scale.

For International Women’s Day 2020, there is a movement to come together collectively to make change happen, so together, we can each help nourish a gender equal world.

We can all choose to be #EachforEqual.

Women Make their Mark in Network Marketing

Women are playing an increasingly large role in today’s business world. What’s more, the evolution of direct selling, or network marketing, has led to an entrepreneurial opportunity in which many women have taken an interest. In fact, according to the Direct Selling Association’s (DSA) 2018 industry statistics, over 74 percent of people involved in the direct selling industry are women.

Women of all backgrounds and levels of professional experience are turning to the direct selling industry as a way to work towards financial rewards. The rise of “Mom-prenuers”, ladies looking for opportunities of decent-paying “side gigs”, and millennials wanting a more flexible earning opportunity have been huge contributors to network marketing’s growing success.¤

Additionally, with the large percentage of successful women leading the direct selling industry, there are countless examples of encouraging, inspirational ladies who are empowering other women to join the ranks. By owning their own businesses, women can be better able to balance roles at home and in their community. Many of these women have embraced network marketing due to its low overhead cost, strong community and support system, and the ability to have a more flexible schedule.

In honor of International Women’s Day and all of our remarkable Plexus ladies, here are some of our top techniques to help businesswomen thrive.

Be Genuine and Trustworthy – Girl, you’re amazing just the way you are. While it’s important to continue growing yourself, always remember you have so much to offer as you are now. When sharing Health and Happiness with others, talk about your experience in an authentic way. Women are especially great at seeing through the b.s., so keep the real you front-and-center. Be the person that others can come to for help, knowing they never have to worry about judgment or criticism.

Set Goals – What does success look like to you? Goal-oriented women dig deep and create realistic, tangible goals that they can measure. It’s easy to say, “My goal is to travel more,” but how will you know if you’ve achieved it? Get more specific! Try, “My goal is to go on my dream vacation to Italy by Summer 2020.” Now you have something tangible to work toward, and you can create smaller stepping-stone goals to help you stay on the right track.¤
Things may come up that distract you from the pursuit of your goals, but don’t let them slow you down. Writer, author, and speaker Laura Vanderkam said, “Instead of saying ‘I don’t have time,’ try saying ‘it’s not a priority’ and see how that feels.” How much do your goals really matter? It’s up to you to put in the effort to get where you want to be, and remember you can re-evaluate them as-needed.

Communicate Effectively -- This one may seem obvious, but communication is a skill most of us must continue to work at. Good communication includes conveying information clearly and accurately, and it is essential when building and maintaining any relationship, not just in business. Communication is a two-way street, so a big part of communicating is effective listening. Try asking questions, and make a real effort to understand what the person you are speaking with is looking for in this conversation. Do you have a tendency to get side-tracked, nervous, or even self-involved when communicating? Are you only thinking about what to say next? Don’t worry, even the most well-versed communicators need practice. The more time you spend with great communicators, the more their skills will rub off on you.

Find a Mentor – Remember those examples of famous, stand-out women we talked about earlier? One of our favorites, Oprah Winfrey, said, “A mentor is someone who allows you to see the hope inside yourself.” A mentor, otherwise known as a guide, supporter, counselor, or teacher, can come from anywhere. Think about the women who inspire you. Maybe it’s a neighbor or a coworker, or perhaps it’s a teammate or friend. Once you have found a couple of great people, talk to them about how they have become the person you so admire. Find out what they do on a daily basis that has helped them on their journey, and see how you can implement these attributes into your own life.

Empower Other Women– It’s all about paying it forward. For all the support you receive, pass it on to another. Women love to build close relationships, and these bonds create a supportive environment to help others progress. So, empower the women in your life, even those you do not know. Remind other women what you admire about them and give them a reason to smile. Be an example of those power-house women that you admire, and in turn, you will find others paying it forward, too.

Take a moment to celebrate the important women who have made a difference in your life. We suggest creating a thoughtful social media post about an inspiring woman—or women—who helped teach you the value of hard work, determination, and fulfillment. Be sure to use #IWD2020 and #EachforEqual on your post!
